The Avenida Rio Salado (ARS)/Broadway Road project in the southwest Phoenix Metropolitan Area along Broadway Road between 67th Avenue and 7th Street is an integral part of the Maricopa Association of Governments’ (MAG) Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). The project increases traffic capacity and improves circulation for current and projected traffic by providing improved transportation options for motorists traveling both locally and regionally. It connects to the planned State Route (SR) 801 freeway and the SR 202 Loop (South Mountain Freeway) to provide improved east-west options for traveling from the southwest metropolitan area to downtown Phoenix.
Premier was selected to design a new six-lane urban arterial roadway from 51st Avenue to 43rd Avenue to provide three-lanes of travel in each direction with a raised median. There was no existing roadway within this section of the project, and the design included widening 51st Avenue as well as the 51st Avenue/ARS intersection and the 43rd Avenue/ARS intersection improvements. The scope included design of a new storm drain system with catch basins; laterals and a storm drain trunk line between 51st and 43rd Avenues; and identification and mitigation of outfalls into the Salt River along with bank stabilization and erosion protection of the new roadway along the south bank of the Salt River. Services also included coordination and documentation necessary in a CLOMR submittal for the Salt River flood plain.
